posted 22 Apr 2010 15:42 by Paul Drummond   [ updated 19 Jan 2011 06:34 ]

OpenLoopz 1.6 is now available to download on Android Market.

Please remember to back-up your data before upgrading.

Features Include:
  • No More Ads in free version
    • The ads were interfering with the GPS and therefore the overall user experience of OpenLoopz so they have been removed.
    • OpenLoopz 1.6 and OpenLoopz Pro 1.6 are identical apps at time of release.
    • All updates going forward will appear in OpenLoopz Pro first then roll out to OpenLoopz at a later date.
    • Please note: All features will eventually be released in the free version of OpenLoopz also - it won't be crippled in any way.
  • New Search feature.
  • New "Hide Until" feature so you can hide actions from the home screen until a specific date/time.
  • New "Set Location" feature allowing you to manually choose a place for times when the GPS is inaccurate.
  • Added "tomorrow morning", "one week", "two weeks" and "one month" to the date time picker for "deadlines" and "hide until".
  • Added option to only display Next Actions on home screen.
  • Added option to prevent Sub-actions from going in the in-basket even if they are eligible.
  • Modified UI of the View Action screen to conserve screen space.
  • Added "push back 1 hour" and "push back 1 day" context menu options for scheduled actions.
  • For projects with multiple next actions, completing a next action no longer removes the other next actions.
  • Added option so user can choose whether the view screen is displayed after new/edit action.
Thank you to all OpenLoopz users for the continuing support and feedback.  Regarding the sync feature, rest assured there have been lots of sleepless nights and will be a lot more working on OpenLoopz Web - as soon as there is news it will be announced here.

OpenLoopz 1.4.1 - Released 14th January 2010

posted 14 Jan 2010 11:51 by Paul Drummond

OpenLoopz 1.4.1 is now available to download from Android Market.  Features include:

  • Improvements to the behaviour of "smart contexts" - now the home screen should "do the right thing"!
  • New option in Settings to disable Smart Contexts (for those of us that want to use OpenLoopz as a simple todo list without wasting resources and speed).
  • "Save & New" option added to New Action screen so you can create multiple actions quicker.
  • The "View Action" screen is now displayed after saving an action.  This is especially useful when creating projects as you can add sub-actions quickly without needing to find the action first.
  • "Open Actions" screen no longer displays projects and has been moved nearer to the top of the review screen.
  • Added "Open Projects" and "Completed Projects" screens.
  • When setting deadline date, OpenLoopz now defaults the time to the user's end of day.
Bug Fixes:
  • In-basket actions that become projects are now correctly removed from the in-basket.
  • The context auto-complete edit box in the "New Action" screen no longer creates new contexts where only the case differs.
  • Fixed bug where it was possible to edit the "Due Tomorrow" header by long-pressing on it.
  • Many more minor usability tweaks.
Thank you to all OpenLoopz users for the continuing support and feedback.

OpenLoopz 1.4 - Released 20th November 2009

posted 20 Nov 2009 06:35 by Paul Drummond   [ updated 7 Jan 2010 09:42 ]

OpenLoopz 1.4 is now available to download from Android Market.

We recommend all users back up there data before upgrading as the database has changed slightly for this version.  OpenLoopz will upgrade the database automatically but it's better to be safe than sorry! While particularly important for this version it's good practise to backup before every upgrade.

This release is all about fixing the location detection in OpenLoopz.  We've fixed the bugs that were present in 1.3 (thanks to Simon Stephens for his help in getting to the bottom of this) and added a much-request feature:  Now you can specify a distance range when creating a place - the 1 mile radius restriction has been removed!

OpenLoopz now detects your location with much more accuracy than before and we've added various location-based preferences so you can find the right balance between performance and power consumption.

We've also made some minor (but important!) usability improvement to the Edit Action screen.

Version 1.4 Full Change List:

  • Support for specifying a distance range when defining a place.
  • Support for fine grained accuracy for improved location detection
  • Support for user-configuration to control how OpenLoopz detects the user's location
  • When typing in the action edit, OpenLoopz no longer capitalizes each word.
  • The Action Description is now one line to converse screen space.  It expands as the user requires.
  • The soft keyboard is removed when the context pop-up is selected.
Special thanks to Simon Stephens for his help getting to the bottom of the location bugs, and all the other users who suggested features to help improve OpenLoopz.  Please keep the feedback coming and let us know what you think of 1.4.

Minor Version Announcements

v1.4.0.1

  • Fixed bug where OpenLoopz would crash on launch if no location sources were enabled.
  • Fix bug where home screen didn't respond to user interaction if Auto Refresh was on and the minimum distance was zero.  Now, when you enable Auto Refresh, OpenLoopz will ensure the minimum distance is no less than 50 meters which prevents the home screen from being refreshed too often.
v1.4.0.2

  • Fixed bug that prevented location contexts from appearing on application start (user had to refresh to force context to appear).
  • Fixed bug that prevented the in-basket notification icon from updating.

OpenLoopz 1.3 - Released 7th November 2009

posted 7 Nov 2009 02:49 by Paul Drummond   [ updated 18 Nov 2009 04:53 ]

OpenLoopz 1.3 is now available to download from Android Market with the many, many new features!
  • Improved home screen makes better use of contexts to categorise your actions.
  • Home screen now optionally shows "Due Today", "Due Tomorrow" and "Due Soon" sections.
  • New streamlined 'Edit Action' screen with context edit box and pop-up list selector.
  • New streamlined 'View Action' screen that shows all action details and sub-actions in a single scrollable form.
  • New priority setting for actions.
  • New "Add As Sub-action" option.
  • All list screens are now sensibly ordered! ;-)
  • The Notification system has been re-written:
    • The new system is less annoying all round!
    • You can configure how often OpenLoopz will check for overdue and stale actions independently.
    • You can configure a "bed time" hours, after which all notifications are silent.
    • You can turn notifications off altogether if you want to.
  • You can now associate a single person with an action rather than always relying on 'Contact Contexts'.
  • You can now "touch" a stale action to quickly remove its "stale" status.  There is also a "Touch All" Option.
  • New "Delete All" and "Shred All" options.
  • 'Next Action' context on the home screen is now optional.  You can unpin it just like any other context.
  • Lots and lots of bug fixes!
Thank you to every who has supported us during the development of OpenLoopz.  The new features wouldn't have seen the light of day without the amazing support and fantastic suggestions from the community.

Special thanks to David Wagner for his "intersection" idea, and all the other users who suggested features to help improve OpenLoopz.  We value your feedback and look forward to hearing your thoughts on 1.3!

Minor Version Announcements

V1.3.0.4
  • Location improvements in 1.3.0.3 resulted in the home screen refreshing too slowly if the home screen had a large number of actions to display.  This update optimises the code while still retaining the improvements introduced in 1.3.0.3.
V1.3.0.3
  • Minor improvements to improve accuracy of location detection on Home Screen

V1.3.0.2
  • Fixed various date/time related issues due to a timezone glitch.

V1.3.0.1

  • Fixed bug where project name was not being displayed in the action description for sub-actions
  • Fixed bug in Context Popup Selector where unticking all contexts didn't clear the context edit box

OpenLoopz 1.2.2 - Released 28th September 2009

posted 28 Sep 2009 14:15 by Paul Drummond

OpenLoopz 1.2.2 - a bug-fix release - now available to download from Android Market with the following critical bug fix:

From the Edit Context screen, choosing the 'Cancel' option inadvertently causes the context to be deleted.  If this is done for the 'Next Action' context, then the main screen will constantly 'Force Close'.  All users should update to version 1.2.2 at the earliest convenience.Special thanks goes to David Wagner for reporting this problem.

If any user has lost data due to this bug please report it via the group and we will look into finding a solution to retrieve the data.

OpenLoopz Free Version 1.2 - Released 8th September 2009

posted 8 Sep 2009 11:51 by Paul Drummond   [ updated 8 Sep 2009 12:33 ]

OpenLoopz is now completely free!

OpenLoopz 1.2 is now available to download from Android Market with the following new features:

  • No longer a trial - the expiry has been removed for version 1.2!
  • Backup to SD card
  • Restore from SD card
  • Misc bug fixes
Thank you to everyone who gave us feedback since our initial release in August.  This latest version is all about responding to that feedback.

The most requested feature was definitely SD-Card Backup so it has been the focus for version 1.2.  We also discovered there was considerable confusion and hesitation around OpenLoopz being "Trial" software so we decided to do the right thing remove the expiry and make OpenLoopz 100% free going forward.

We hope you enjoy Getting Things Done with the new version of OpenLoopz!

  • Changed layout of the 'Action Edit' screen so the context list is now in its own tab and the notes are with the action title on the main.  This is the result of feedback from G1 users who found it hard to scroll the context list in landscape mode because there wasn't enough room.
  • Changed layout of 'Action View' screen - moved sub-actions list to new tab.
  • Added 'New Action' and 'Review Action' buttons to 'Main Screen'
  • Fixed bug where shredded actions caused a software crash.
  • Updated icon
